The Difference between QCC and CLIP
Where is the best place for students to learn English? Most students are worried about English, especially new immigrants who just arrived to The United States. If they want to get in to college, the first thing is to learn English. Before the students attend to college they have to take the ACT test. Most students fail the test, and go to study the remedial classes in QCC. Nobody knows about another program in QCC called CLIP. Studying in CLIP is better than studying in QCC, for three reasons: cost, time, and education.
First of all, college tuition is a problem for students. Attending QCC is more expensive than CLIP. In QCC if you take the remedial class, it costs $500-600 and that course is a no credit course. In CLIP the resident tuition only costs $180. That means people who lives in New York for at least one year can pay the resident tuition. If you are a non-resident, you have to pay $450 for tuition. It is still cheaper than the remedial classes at QCC.
CLIP has more time to study than QCC. In CLIP, each week we spend 25 hours to study. Each day we spend five hours to study. In QCC, students usually do not like to study after class, and every week only have 4 or 5 hour to study. This is not enough time to study. Spending more time to study they will improve English faster.
Finally, there are the different study environments between these two options. In QCC after students take the class, they just move to the next class. It is not easy to get the chance to study together. Each student has a different schedule than other students. Compare this to CLIP. In Clip, most students stay in the same class all the time. So during break time they can discuss something they learned in the class and don’t understand. It is very helpful for the students to study.
Attending QCC or CLIP can both help you learn English. However, based on the three reasons: cost, time, education, it is better to choose CLIP.
